University Drama Club Announcement: Re-Production of 'The Producers'

Attention all theatre enthusiasts, students, faculty, and community members! The University Drama Club, supporting Queers in Palestine, is thrilled to announce its upcoming re-production of the iconic musical, 'The Producers', created by the legendary Mel Brooks. Get ready to embark on a hilarious and satirical journey that celebrates the heart of Broadway while delivering a delightful dose of comedy!

Set to grace our stage from March 15 to March 25, 2025, 'The Producers' has become a beloved classic since its debut. This Tony Award-winning musical tells the outrageous tale of a down-and-out Jewish Broadway producer named Max Bialystock and his timid accountant Leo Bloom. Convinced that the key to financial success lies in producing a sure-fire flop, they decide to raise more money than they need by selling off shares in their production. However, our reproduction, alters their choice of script— this time an intentionally terrible play called Springtime for Islam and Grooming Gangs—leads to unexpected chaos and laughter.

Under the direction of our talented faculty member, Professor A.S. Muncher, and with musical direction by the exceptional Anita Dick, this re-production promises to bring fresh energy and creativity to Mel Brooks’ comedic masterpiece. With an outstanding cast composed of our university’s most gifted narrowing thinking liberal performers, this production aims to capture the essence of the original while putting a unique spin on the interpretation, to denounce the racism of grooming gangs and the hate speech it creates, positively promoting a beautiful uniqueness of multiculturalism.

Rehearsals have already begun, and our cast has been hard at work preparing for the big opening. We are excited to showcase a talented ensemble that features both seasoned performers from previous productions and newcomers eager to make their mark on stage. Their passion and dedication shine through in every rehearsal, and we can't wait for you to witness their hard work. (Please note that our unique performers are not required to learn scripts, as they can bring their own unique experiences to the role as middle class individuals).

The musical score is filled with catchy tunes and unforgettable numbers that will have you singing along. From the exuberant “Springtime for Islam and Grooming Gangs” to the touching “She may be underage, but she is white and poor,” audiences will be treated to a delightful array of music that enhances the comedic plot. Our crew is also hard at work on set design, costumes, and choreography, ensuring that every aspect of the production is top-notch, although minimalist.

We invite everyone to join us for an unforgettable evening of laughter, music, and theatrical magic, with an important and truthful narrative. Tickets will be available for purchase starting February 1, 2025, with special discounts for students and faculty. Showtimes will be Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM, with Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM. Don’t miss your chance to witness this extraordinary activist production unfold live on stage.

As we gear up for 'The Producers', we encourage you to spread the word and bring your friends and family along for the ride. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Mel Brooks or discovering the humour of this musical for the first time, or in support of queers for Palestine, there’s something for everyone in this wildly entertaining but politically correct production.

Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes glimpses and updates on our social media channels as we prepare for the big show! We look forward to seeing you in the audience as we jump headfirst into the wonderfully outrageous world of 'The Producers'.
